My Self Care Routine
I typically have a busy life, as I’m sure you can relate. Stress has always played a prominent role in my life, and after trying multiple methods of relieving stress, I never stuck to the same routine. I would come across ideas on Pinterest, Facebook, or Instagram on ways to cope with stress, but these ideas would never fully stick for me. My stress kept adding up and nothing was changing it nor was I doing anything different.
This is where I came up with #selfcaresunday. So far, it has consistently stuck with me for over four months now.
Yes, I know this may sound quirky or cliché, believe me, I thought so too, but for some reason it stuck with me.
On a side note, I used to wake up dreading Sunday’s because it meant the last day to cram in all my homework, or knowing that I’d have to wake up again at 6am the next day. That’s why I decided to dedicate Sunday’s to taking care of myself so I would no longer have any negative feelings towards a certain day of the week, but rather look forward to it.
This isn’t necessarily a day where I follow the same routine every week, but rather a day that I devote to taking care of myself. If that means grocery shopping, taking a nap, or doing laundry, I do it because I know it is good for me. Typically, my #selfcaresunday will involve me waking up at a decent hour to go to church, eat a relatively healthy and yummy meal, take a nap if need be, and anything that relaxes me during the day. Sunday nights is when the real self care starts to kick in. I normally take a shower, do a hair mask, face mask, drink hot tea, and listen to one of my favorite Spotify playlists, and paint/journal. A combination of all these, mentally prepares me for the week ahead while also letting the stress of the past week go.
The growth that I have seen in myself both physically and mentally is tremendous.
If you are looking for a way to help with your stress levels, treat yourself, and allow yourself to relax in a world that’s always busy, I highly recommend you find a day that works best for yourself (or even a few hours) and do whatever it may be that is good for you and your body. People function differently, and finding what works best for you to unwind is important. If you decide to give it a try, I’d love to hear what works for you.
