Benefits of Memory Games
When you were a kid, do you ever remember playing card games with your family? Specifically with memory games?
This week, my friend brought a deck of cards over to the apartment and we ended up playing a memory game with it. I haven’t done this as a child, and to be honest, I forgot how much fun it was! I found myself getting competitive with it, and started to ponder the benefits of memory games and strategic games in general.
An article from Harvard University was published discussing brain games in general and how it is actually linked to improving memory.
“The more convincing evidence is that brain games may help sharpen certain thinking skills that tend to wane with age, such as processing speed, planning skills, reaction time, decision making, and short-term memory, according to a study in the November 2016 International Psychogeriatrics” (The thinking on brain games).
Besides playing games, it is proven that there are benefits to brain games. I see it as mental exercise which is just as important as physical excerice; it is crucial to your body and keeping yourself healthy.
I believe that there is something so special with gathering around and playing board games with your friends and family! If it helps your brain, then even better!
